P Jayaraj and his son Beniks who died after being arrested by the Sathankulam police.SALEM: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to hand over the investigation into the custodial deaths of a father-son duo at Sathankulam to the CBI, said chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for government projects at Thalaivasal in Salem district, the CM said the government would inform the high court about this decision in the next hearing.
“When the case comes up for hearing in the Madurai bench of Madras high court, we would take permission of the court and hand over the probe to the CBI,’’ he said.
Without going into the allegations of police torture, EPS said P Jayaraj and his son Beniks of Sathankulam in Tuticorin district had been booked and arrested over an issue pertaining to the closure of their mobile shop. “Both were admitted to Kovilpatti Government Hospital where they died,’’ EPS said.
